Piece of Cake Masculine Card with Pillow Box

I have a confession to make.  I'm scared of The Man Card.  It's not something that comes naturally to me, it's not my preferred color palettes, it's just not my thing.  I'm fairly girly, which does not translate well when making a masculine card!  However, on rare occasion I want to make one.  That was the case tonight - I want to thank a Doctor of mine with a small gift for his birthday (which happens to be within a week of my own and we are both turning 50 this year!) . So not only is this card for a man, it's for a Doctor.  Awkward....but I really want to do this.  So with an open mind and slightly shaky hands, I sat down to create this card and pillow box combo.

My color palette is nothing out of the ordinary - Soft Suede, Old Olive, Very Vanilla.  I kept the lines clean, very little embellishment and bold shapes.  I used the NEW Piece of Cake Bundle, available to customers January 3, 2019.  You will love it!!  Note:  the natural trim ribbon that I used is retired, but there are many substitutes.

Cut Soft Suede cardstock 4 1/4" x 11".  This is a simple Z-fold card, so score at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2".  Cut 4" x 5 1/4" card insert from Very Vanilla.  On scrap piece of Very Vanilla, stamp cake, cake stand, and candles in Memento Black Ink.  Color with Stampin' Blends.  Cut out with circle die, diameter
2 3/4".

Stamp another cake only, color and punch out with cake punch.  Color the second cake in the same colors as the first, pop up on Stampin' Dimensionals and put on top of first stamped cake.  This gives your image visual interest without adding a lot of different colors.  Nestle a small piece of trim in between the two cakes.  Cut circle from Old Olive Regals Designer Series Paper with circle die, diameter 3 1/8".  Adhere smaller circle to larger circle.  Apply adhesive to left half of back of circle and adhere to the front of the card.  Stamp candles on bottom of insert, color with Stampin' Blends and adhere to inside of card.  On scrap piece of Very Vanilla stamp sentiment and cut into a banner shape.  Pop up on Stampin' Dimensionals and adhere to card.  You may also want to adhere a small piece of trim to the sentiment banner also.  There's your card!

And now for the pillow box.  These pillow boxes are very economical and so easy to decorate!  I cut a 2" x 6 strip of Old Olive DSP and wrapped it around the center of the box.  It is just a touch short but not to worry.  Adhere it to the box and then you will adhere your cake circle to the side where the DSP does not meet.  Color a cake just as you did for the card.  The larger circle for this one is cut out of Soft Suede.  Adhere with Tear and Tape and your gift box is ready for a gift card, movie tickets, or any small gift.

They make a perfect combination, so conquer your fear of the Man Card and make one today!
